In the search for biological significance of the genetic polymorphism in man, special attention has been directed towards the relationship between blood group and diseases.
This survey was carried out at three, university hospitals (Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University) and Red Cross Hospital and National Medical Center.
As the control data S.Y. Lee´s reportc1960) was adopted. Only the patients with unequivocal diagnosis of stomach cancer, gastric ulcer, or duodenal ulcer, confirmed by upper gatrointestinal radiological study, gastroendoscopy, biopsy and operative findings, were selected for study.
Cases were obtained from the operating record book and internal medicine discharge record book, between 1959-1975, the total number of cases are stomach cancer: 1297, stomach ulcer: 593, duodenal ulcer: 598.
As compared with control group there was, much higher frequency of group A among the patients with stomach cancer, and there was higher frequency of group 0 among the patients with duodenal ulcer. In the group of stomach ulcer only slight´ preponderance for group B was noted.
